Ichigo is highly allergic to the multitude of pollens and plant dander in the air in Konoha, so he has to filter the air he breathes at all times, except perhaps the dead of winter. Indoors, a most ventilation systems will suffice, though outdoors, he is often seen wearing a paper mask over his mouth and nose. In battle, the paper mask is replaced with a metal poison-filter.

A final bit of personal style is a tattoo with the kanji for “go,” or protect, carved into his flesh with sand by his father. Sand resides within the tattoo and can be used as an offensive weapon. Ichigo’s control over it has grown over the years, as he as slowly replaced his father’s chakra with his own. Controlling the sand is extremely taxing on Ichigo and freeing it from his arm so that it can be used at all is a painful and bloody process. To use this sand is not a decision he makes lightly.

On the other arm, he has the kanji for the number nine, "Kyu." This kanji marks the seal of his ninth, artificial chakra gate and keeps him from being even more crazy than he normally is.

History: Ichigo is the first of three children born to Gaara of the Desert. The circumstances surrounding Ichigo’s birth are not particularly pleasant—a new member of the Sunagakure no Sato council manipulated Gaara by offering the one thing he has always wanted but thought beyond his reach: Love. (What Gaara does not realize even to this day is that his entire village adores him.) And so a deal was struck: this woman, who was a new comer to the council and did not care to go through the usual hoops of being the most recent appointee, would marry Gaara and bare him children, who he may raise in any manner he sees fit and teach to love him, in exchange for becoming a direct advisor to the Kazekage. Aware of this deal, Ichigo has a very strained relationship with his mother. He has two younger sisters, Eri and Aya, who do not share this aversion.

As a ninja, Ichigo was trained extensively from the age of four onward by his father, mother, aunt Temari, uncle Kankuro and a private tutor. He is a slow learner but a hard worker and has therefore excelled in taijutsu and weapons trainings. He attended the Ninja Academy for one semester when his various teachers felt he was ready to attain genin status and graduated at the first opportunity.

The timing corresponded with that of the Ninja Exchange Program’s finalization and the first exchange of ninja by villages, in an effort to force permanent alliances between villages by sharing manpower and secrets. Ichigo, who had been groomed to be the next Kazekage since birth, was seen as the best show of good faith Sunagakure had and he was shipped off to Konoha.

Personality: Ichigo tends to be over-protective of those around him. It’s not good enough for him to merely protect loved ones or “important people.” Everyone must be safe in all aspects. He has been shattered in the past by watching pacifists kill because he believes he should be strong enough that they shouldn’t have to do such things when he is there. Anyone who gets close to Ichigo is apt to be a victim of his need to protect people, and occasionally, his need to possess them as well. His willingness to kill presents something of a paradox, as he claims to be one who protects rather than harms. But in the end, Ichigo knows to protect those he has taken responsibility for, others much suffer. He is willing to sacrifice others to this end, and also, himself.

Alternatively, the boy is also a bit of a snob. He only really associates with Konoha ninja who are from a good family, like the Uchihas or a Hokage line. He holds grudges as a matter of course, and in most cases probably doesn’t even remember why someone appalls him, they just do. The world is black and white as well as etched in stone to Ichigo. Once you get on his bad side, the only thing likely to change his mind is your death.

He’s a no-nonsense fellow most of the time (though Hakusen has a way of getting Ichigo to do goofy things with no effort) and believes heavily in discipline and other tenets of shinobi-hood. One might think that a frivolous thing like a girlfriend would contradict other aspects of his nature, but Ichigo knows that no one ever achieved true strength alone. The most effective weapon of a ninja is those who stand with him. If you asked him, Ichigo could tell you the very moment he fell in love with Uchiha Nyoko.

In his youth, Ichigo was often oblivious to the goings on of the world or the feelings of others. Gut feelings and intuition were beyond him, but he’d fashioned his own sensitivity to air and wind into something that was nearly divination, but more accurately feeling how the air shifts when an opponent moves. Still simple-minded for the most part, he’s become wiser with experience which is just as good as intelligence. Sometimes.

He’s still DAMN OBLIVIOUS.

He’s further goal-oriented, detail-oriented and apt to make bad decisions. The first two traits help him as a pupil of Rock Lee (Ichigo thinks self-imposed rules are the greatest things he’s ever heard), but the third gets him into quite a bit of trouble, as he uses techniques like Lotus somewhat casually.

As a hobby, he enjoys calligraphy and collects hour glasses. He also sings show tunes and reads girls’ manga, but isn’t about to admit that to anyone who doesn’t already know, like his cousin Hakusen, who he’s called “Ha’sen” for as long as anyone can remember. With cousin Michiru, or just “Michi,” he keeps up to date on their private notion of fashion.

Ichigo’s Hex
Ninjutsu: The war forced Ichigo to put more focus on his ninjutsu skills. He has improved dramatically there, however, all of his techniques are written on prepared scrolls or need to be used in conjuction with a scroll technique. For example, he can do a Sand Clone, but he has to summon the sand with a scroll first. He has for the most part abandoned Kugutsu no Jutsu and Kamaitachi.
Genjutsu: Can do it. Has no use for it, ever.
Taijutsu: Easily Ichigo’s largest strength, he has honed his taijutsu skills for the majority of his life. The most devastating move in Ichigo’s collection is the trice blooming Lotus: Intial Lotus, Reverse Lotus and a currently unnamed Lotus that he's still working on.
Weapons: Also skilled in the mastery of weapons, Ichigo enjoys stabbing and beating his enemies with blunt objects. Most weapons are not carried on his person, but summoned via scroll. The only exception to this rule is the unnamed weapon Shido Shinme crafted out of chakra absorbing metal. The weapon constantly absorbs Ichigo’s chakra, so that what is in his reserve is more manageable.
Speed: As a taijutsu user, Ichigo needs speed and has it in spades.
Chakra Control: Due to the out of proportion sizes of his body and his chakra reserve, Ichigo does not control his chakra as much as he grasps desperately at a small piece he can hold on it. Using his chakra to its full potential is devastating—to him, moreso than enemies.
Stamina: Ichigo as a lot of stamina for taijutsu and taking physical attacks, but is easily worn out when it comes to ninjutsu.
Intelligence: Ichigo’s mind is an encyclopedia of ninja theory, philosophy and technique. He doesn’t know beans about anything else.
